The Gender Diversity Group is a committee focused on addressing the gender imbalance in management in the marketing communications industry.

Gender CommitteeContext:
The marketing communications industry strongly underperforms in gender diversification. Women are underrepresented in senior management roles, with valuable female talent dropping out of employment in considerable numbers. Consequently the sector is missing out on the economic and social benefits diversity brings.

The Communications Council’s Diversity Group was founded in the belief that gender diversity in business translates in tangible economic benefits and is an essential condition for businesses in the commercial creative sector to thrive.

Mission Statement:
To promote the advancement of women in the marketing communications industry with a view to addressing the issue of gender imbalance and in the belief that gender diversity in business translates in tangible economic benefits and is an essential condition for businesses in the commercial creative sector to thrive.

Objectives:
• Raise awareness with and influence the industry’s decision makers on the value of nurturing and retaining a gender balanced workforce in light of the demonstrable commercial success of gender diverse organisations
• Provide practical tools to assist  organisation’s management  in securing a gender balanced workforce

Projects:
• The group is currently engaged in a research project aimed at getting a better understanding of attitudes to gender diversity and if/how that translates to agency policies. It will also be looking at barriers and drivers of participation in the advancement and tenure of these women.
• The results will be used in a white paper which recommends approaches and maps out practical ways of changing the gender balance in your agency.
