What we're looking for

We’re looking for curious, interesting and innovative people.

Our industry seeks those who are interesting. You might be studying law, accounting, architecture, philosophy, psychology or any of the more traditional paths into advertising or public relations. The fact you have applied yourself and increased your ability to think more broadly is exactly what we're after.

The Communications Council is not an advertising agency. So who are we and what is our role running Jump Start?

It’s as simple as this: we are Australia’s national industry body representing advertising agencies, with a member base across a range of disciplines at the forefront of commercial creativity.

Our members take great pride in their work and look to us to attract and engage new talent to help them continue to be commercially successful.

They seek and crave creative, innovative, team-oriented individuals who are passionate about the industry and are ready to roll up their sleeves and work shoulder-to-shoulder with some of the most talented professionals in the industry.

How is Jump Start different to other graduate programs?

How many graduates have the opportunity to be mentored by different leaders?

How many industry programs invest in their graduates before putting them to work?

This is what stands us apart from other graduate programs. Our member agencies include integrated agencies as well as specialists in advertising, public relations, digital, experiential, media and brand activation.

Jump Start provides the opportunity to network with industry leaders for up to 10 weeks before entering an agency. Jump Start program is an initiative of The Communications Council WA, and is in its seventh year of nurturing talent. Over 130 graduates have successfully completed Jump Start.

The nuts and bolts of Jump Start

The Communications Council offers third year undergraduates and graduates the opportunity to connect with the industry. Jump Start is suitable for those wishing to progress in the fields of advertising, media or public relations.

Jump Start is divided into two stages:

Stage 1: Connect. Apply, speed date and land your seat in our program
Stage 2: Inspire. Our eight week industry induction provides practical information (not what you learn at university) that is relevant to your first one to three years in the industry. It is also the time for you to shine, as agencies offer employment.

What to expect from Jump Start

All participants move through our program at the same time which is designed to identify and nurture future industry talent by developing your practical skills, knowledge and networks to assist in building and advancing your career within the advertising industry.

All applicants will attend an industry speed date with participating agencies. After the speed date participants are notified if they are invited to participate in stage two.

Stage two is an eight week program, run on consecutive Tuesdays either in a morning 8am to 11am or afternoon 3pm to 6pm session. The program is hosted at a different agency each week and provides practical learning around the industry and its disciplines. Stage two finishes with a one day workshop, where graduates work inside agencies on a real client project.

What are we looking for?

  • Great problem solvers with demonstrated 'outside the square' thinking
  • Passion for creativity and people
  • Excellent communicators
  • Great collaborators and team players
  • Diversity
