Advertising Federation of Australia Members Vote For Creation of New Industry Body
- The Communications Council gets the go-ahead -
Members of the Advertising Federation of Australia (AFA) have today voted in favour of the creation of a new industry body, to be called The Communications Council.
At an Extraordinary General Meeting in Sydney this afternoon, the AFA membership unanimously endorsed the formation of The Communications Council, whose founder members will be the AFA, the Australasian Writers and Art Directors Association (AWARD) and the Account Planning Group (APG).

AFA calls an EGM to propose the development of a new industry organisation
On Tuesday 17 November, AFA members are invited to attend an Extraordinary General Meeting to vote on the proposal to merge AFA, AWARD and APG into a new organisation, representing our combined interests.
The AFA has been in discussions with the Australasian Writers and Art Directors Association (AWARD) and the Account Planning Group (APG) regarding the future of industry representation. These discussions have been prompted by awareness we are all facing changes driven by technology, consumers and our clients. The fragmented nature of member organisations means we have lacked a unified and influential voice on issues affecting our business.
As agencies strive to provide a more integrated approach for clients, it is time for industry bodies to do the same. Our three organisations, currently representing marketing communications agencies and the creative and planning communities, have seen value in embracing a ‘together stronger’ approach.
It is time to be proactive and control the future of our industry. We strongly believe it is time for change.
Central to these plans is the development of a new organisation that supports the economic benefits of our creative industry. With the support of AWARD and APG, we will be in a stronger position to deliver more value and better representation for our members.
You are invited to attend this important member meeting to decide the future of your industry organisation.
