The Account Planning Group
The Account Planning Group (APG) is a key group within The Communications Council, representing the discipline of account planning and creative strategy. The group is chaired by Angela Morris, National Planning Director, J. Walter Thompson and Sophie Price, Chief Strategy Officer, UM. Together with a group of leading planning directors from creative, media and PR, the APG runs a program of professional development seminars and activities to promote the value of creative strategy and effectiveness for brands and businesses. APG Committees operate in Sydney and Melbourne. The Melbourne group is chaired by Anuj Mehra, J. Walter Thompson.

APG presents Cannes Showcase - a selection of some of the most interesting and innovative work from the 2016 Cannes Lions awards. The showreel was held in Sydney and Melbourne with more than 120 at each event. Panel speakers included Sophie Price - UM, Chris Colter- UM, Ben Coulson - GPY&R, Angela Morris and Anuj Mehra - J. Walter Thompson, Claire Salvetti - One Green Bean, Bob Forster - Clemenger BBDO.
UX & Planning - presented in Sydney by Craig Adams, Strategy Director at Naked and Ian Swanson, Design Lead at Coca Cola, the presentation uncovered what planning can learn from design thinking. A copy of the presentation is available here.
APG presents SXSW - a showcase held in Sydney and Melbourne featuring the key themes from this year’s inspirational SXSW program. Sharing trends and content, panelists included in Melbourne the planning teams at GPY&R and The Lab and in Sydney, Alex Roper - M&C Saatchi, Justin Stafford - Havas and Patrick Guera - RE.
APG presents How to win an Effie - an insightful session with Effies Chair of Judges Colin Wilson-Brown on the tips for preparing an award winning case study. A must-see for anyone thinking of entering the awards.
APG presents - From Consumer to Citizen with Jon Alexander, an introduction to a radical new way of looking at the world around us - and conceiving of our role as creative people in a time of huge societal upheaval.
APG Battle of Big Thinking
Held for the first time year as part of the iconic Vivid Sydney program, Battle of Big Thinking is a platform for the marketing communications industry’s biggest names to challenge, debate and interrogate the way we think, create and operate as an industry. Bringing together big ideas to provoke new thinking on contemporary business and social challenges, this Battle connects creative and strategic thinking in a compelling and interactive combative format.
