If this sounds like you, and you’re ready to jump-start your career in marketing communications and work on challenging projects then read on, as this program is for you. We’re looking for curious people, interesting people and innovative people. People who are interested in contributing to the ever-changing advertising, PR and marcomms world. Not creative people per se (we have AWARD School for budding copywriters and art directors) but people who use their creativity to solve marketing problems. We want people who use both sides of the brain. You might have studied law, accounting, architecture, philosophy, psychology or any of the more traditional paths into advertising and PR.
WHO ARE WE?
We’re not an advertising agency, so who are we and what is our role running a graduate program? It’s as simple as this, we are the marketing communications industry body and we represent over 120 diversified marketing communication agencies at the forefront of commercial creativity. Our members take great pride in their work and look to us to attract and engage new talent to help them continue to be commercially successful. They seek and crave for creative, innovative, team-oriented individuals who are passionate about the industry and are ready to roll their sleeves up to work shoulder-to-shoulder with some of the most talented professionals in the industry. How are we any different to any other graduate program? How many graduates have the opportunity to be mentored by 40 different leaders? This is what stands us apart from other graduate programs. Our member agencies include integrated agencies as well as specialists in healthcare advertising, public relations, digital, experiential and brand activation. Our program provides a broad range of opportunities for a diverse group of candidates. The Communications Council Graduate Program has a long and proud history of over 30 years with nurturing graduate talent. In 2014 we placed 47 graduates and in 2015 we placed 36 graduates into advertising agencies in Sydney and Melbourne.
What to expect from the program All our graduates move through our program at the same time and the intensive 12 month program is designed to identify and nurture future industry leaders by developing your skills, knowledge and networks to assist in building and advancing your career within the marketing communications industry. We run a structured program tailored to your learning and development needs. The program consists of three components: On the job training and professional career development 12 months of hands on training within your agency. This will provide you with a sound understanding of the work that is carried out in an agency as you will be exposed to the day-to-day running of an agency. You will gain exposure to a variety of projects and will have the opportunity to build on critical workplace skills that are necessary to evolve in today’s collaborative, fast-moving, real-time industry. Intensive Learning Program Complete three intensive learning programs with two qualifications internationally recognised and in partnership with the IPA.Getting Started WorkshopIPA Foundation CertificateIPA Inspirational Foundations On-going Learning and networking An ongoing program where you will be required to attend industry led professional development seminars that will expose you to some of the industry’s most influential leaders.What are we looking for?

How long is the graduate program? The learning program lasts 12 months with specific criteria to be successfully completed How many graduate positions are there each year? The number varies each year depending on the number of participating member agencies. In 2015 we placed 36 across both Sydney and Melbourne. When does the 2016 program start?It is anticipated that you will start in one of our member agencies mid-January 2016. What is the Salary? Like many other graduate programs in Australia, the base salary is industry standard and entry level between $40-47K. What happens after the graduate program finishes? Will the agency keep me on? The aim is to retain graduates wherever possible but this will depend on a number of factors unique to the agency in which you are placed.
When is the cut-off date to submit my 2016 application? Applications close on 16 October 2015 and late applications will not be considered. How do I submit my application? You can only apply for either Sydney or Melbourne and not BOTH. What’s involved in the application process?
After initial application screening, if you are successful you will go on to attend a group assessment day and the final stages will involve agency interviews and reference checks before offers are made.
What’s the minimum qualification that is required? The program is designed for undergraduates. We encourage applicants from any academic discipline who have successfully completed a University Degree or TAFE equivalent within the past 18 months with a credit average and above. Do I have to be an Australian Citizen to apply for the program? Yes. This is a local industry program. We are not accredited to take international students and therefore it’s mandatory to have Australian or New Zealand citizenship or permanent residency.
