ACCOUNT MANAGERS UNITE
AMGAAs you will know, AWARD is a community for creatives, while the Account Planning Group brings planners together.

Account managers do not have a dedicated group, but this is set to change. Sputnik’s Kelly-Jade Penton [left] and CumminsRoss’ Amanda Kramer [right] have come to us with a proposal to create the Account Management Group of Australia (AMGA), bringing together account management professionals, supporting them in their professional development and instilling pride in their discipline.

We're delighted to support this initiative and would ask you to nominate yourself, or your senior account management colleagues, should you want to be involved as a committee member, expert or consultant.  Please note the core group will be operating out of Melbourne, with state based representatives ensuring a national footprint.

Please get in touch with Gawen Rudder  for details

A NOTE ON CAR ADVERTISING
The ASB has recently banned two overseas car ads for depicting dangerous and unsafe driving. You can find the determinations for Volvo here and BMW here.

Agencies should be aware when using overseas material, such as brochures or commercials, that the standards that these communications may be subject to overseas, may be more lenient than standards set under Australia’s self-regulatory codes. The FCAI Code for motor vehicles is administered by the ASB and should be considered in the development of all car related communications.

Another important and topical case in this area worth consulting is a recent complaint against Suzuki pertaining to unsafe driving.

If in doubt about your car ad, contact Gawen Rudder, with your questions.

Please note there was an error in the previous newsletter, which stated that the deadline for the Car advertising review was July 6. This review is at the tender stage and there currently is no date set for input into the review.

GET ON TOP OF COPYRIGHT
Australian Copyright CouncilThe Australian Copyright Council, the organisation advancing the Australian arts and the creative industries by promoting the value of copyright, will be holding a series of ‘Working with Copyright’ seminars nationally throughout 2012. These seminars assist creators and users of copyright material in understanding their rights under legislation and how to respect the copyright of others. They are especially helpful for people doing business online or dealing with websites or online content.

Seminars are held in Sydney, Melbourne, Brisbane, Perth and Hobart.

For further details as to dates and locations, visit www.copyright.org.au/seminars

48 ECOFILM CHALLENGE TASKS FILMMAKERS TO “GREEN YOUR RIDE”
EcoFilmThe 48 EcoFilm Challenge is a national short film competition designed to showcase how film can play a role in encouraging action relating to environmental, ecological and sustainability issues.

The theme for this year’s competition is ‘Green Your Ride’, with filmmakers asked to consider a scenario where in 48 hours the world’s oil rigs will stop pumping and the oil tankers will stop arriving on our shores.  How do we keep Australia moving?

Over $12,000 in cash prizes will be awarded, with $5000 cash for the winning film, which will be shown at the Cannes Short Film Corner. The competition takes place July 6-8, 2012.  Registrations are now open at www.48ecofilm.com.

YOUNGBLOODS REBRANDED, MADE TO LOOK YOUNG AGAIN
YoungbloodsYou may have seen the recent rebrand of youngbloods here. Since 1995 the industry group has been helping under 30's around the country learn, socialise and build a network, but now they were due for a refresh.

Excitingly, the rebrand also marks a new beginning for the group, with fresh-faced committees and more events in the pipeline than ever.

To celebrate the brands’ facelift, Youngbloods Victoria will be throwing a small party on July 6. Youngbloods Vic Co-Chairs Luke Osborn and Damiano Di Pietro describe the event as 'a modest christening of the new brand with 400 of Youngbloods' closest friends'. Tickets on sale here.

BRISBANE COMMUNITY SHARES CANNES INSIGHTS
BrisbannesBrisbane's marketing community enjoyed the taste of Cannes last week at the inaugural Brisbannes event, co-hosted by the Queensland Communications Council Committee and Brisbane's member agencies.

Over 200 of the city's marketers gathered at the Palace Barracks Cinema to learn from this year's stand-out creative work and hear from two Cannes winning speakers about their recent success. Matt Bruhn, the marketing director behind the 2011 Gold and Silver winning Bundaberg Rum's 'Watermark' campaign and Mark Sareff, Strategic Planner on Tontine's 'Dated Pillows' work, which picked up two Silver Lions, attested that outstanding creativity leads to outstanding results.

Brisbannes was created by GPY&R's Brendan Greaney and Junior's Jonathan Drapes. The organisers gratefully acknowledge the event's major sponsors – Adshel, Colmar Brunton, Channel 9, News Queensland and Nova 106.9. Brisbannes was supported by GPY&R, Junior, Cartel Film Production, Corbis Images, Cutting Edge and Valley Edge Design Centre.

THE STATE OF THE INTERNET

Highly respected internet analyst Mary Meeker, from Kleiner Perkins Caufield Byers, delivered her latest state of the internet address recently.

She expects change to be enormous as high-speed internet access increases around the world, highlighting that technology disruption and mobilization is or will heavily affect businesses everywhere.

Opportunities highlighted include opportunities for mobile advertising and monetisation, as well as an adjustment of ad spend based on actual usage (with advertisers overspending on channels such as tv and print, and underspending on internet), the capitalisation on e-reader and ipad usage growth and more.  Find the full presentation here.

SYDNEY MORNING HERALD LAUNCHES AIRLINK TO BRING PRINT TO LIFE

SMH Airlink AppFairfax Media recently launched their AirLink* technology in The Sydney Morning Herald (SMH). A game-changing advancement in media, AirLink is a bridge between newspaper and iPhone.*  By simply scanning a photo in the newspaper, readers are served a video or extended photo gallery that relates to the story. Developed in-house at Fairfax Media, AirLink is integrated into the existing SMH iPhone app, so there is no need to download a third-party app, helping users enhance the news experience across print and mobile.

For advertisers, AirLink has opened new avenues to communicate with Fairfax’s discerning and affluent audiences. AirLink provides additional opportunities to enhance a client’s print creative using video. Fairfax Media Metro Commercial Director, Ed Harrison says AirLink delivers on the company’s promise to provide advertisers with multi-platform creative firsts. “Being able to offer television commercials and other forms of digital content via our newspapers opens up some really exciting possibilities for our advertisers.”

AirLink has launched in partnership with MasterCard, the first advertiser to utilise this product innovation in The Sydney Morning Herald and The Sun-Herald for their ‘Priceless Sydney’ campaign.
Download the AirLink Fact Sheet here to find out more.
